Spring Fling Wednesday

So, Max's Wednesday night ride was the kick off for AZSF '08. This was suppose to be a great night. A two hour night ride followed by beer and food at Bison Witches. Some how, there was more falling off the bike than riding, a three hour adventure, and a big fight with no food or beer.

Max, Chad and his group went to do their 2 hour ride. I rode with Brian, Chris, Conor and a shop customer. I did my best to describe the loop that I wanted to do with the guys; the loop Max rode with me a month ago. The loop was short, easy and do-able for me in two hours. I followed the guys, thinking we were on the loop that Max and I did. Lights eventually turned on and everything started to look different; this was my first night ride. Chad was nice enough to lend me his super bright Niterider LED light, but it didn't last the whole ride. By the time the lights went out, I had fallen more times than I'd like to post, fallen into some cholla, and was wishing I was back at the truck when I heard the nearby coyotes.

By the third hour, my small group was making their way to the parking lot and I was falling off my bike one last time. Thank goodness for helmets and honest people. My helmet protected my noggin; I have a huge dent on the right by the visor. And for the honest people; my cell phone fell out of my pocket during the big fall. A fellow MTB rider found it and returned it to me after his ride.

I'm looking forward to my next night ride...with Max (hint, hint).
